CPI Hosts Regional Loss Prevention Seminars

On 21 and 23 November, the Association’s Autumn Regional Loss Prevention Seminars were held in Zhangjiagang and Tianjin. Members in the respective areas were invited to attend the seminars with a total of around 50 attendees from 30 member organizations.

On behalf of the Association’s Managers, Deputy Managing Director Mr. Liu Yutong and Claims Director Mr. Zhou Yousheng welcomed the participants during the opening speech, and presented CPI’s recent developments and core values of service to the members. They ended the speech by expressing gratitude for the members’ continued trust and support. During the loss prevention segment, Capt. Wang Yong from the Loss Prevention Department presented his studies on ship pilotage risks, and shared his practical knowledge on the cooperation between the Master of a vessel and the pilot on board. Mr. Chen Zhigao, General Manager of the Hull Department shared his knowledge in respect of collision cases that occurred in the United States based on his 18 years of experience in handling hull claims. In particular, he spoke about the complicated issues regarding different legal systems and how claims may be significantly exaggerated in some cases. Mr. Li Mai from the Claims Department gave a presentation that focused on the judicial practices of China’s crew claims from different dimensions. Moreover, in these two seminars, safety regulation and environmental protection officers from Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration and Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration were also invited to present their studies on relevant issues regarding IMO’s 2020 Global Sulphur Cap from performance, compliance and supervision perspectives.

The seminars were once again well received by members. As an important part of loss prevention service and technical support to the members, bespoke seminars will continue to be organized to address specific issues that cater to the needs of regional members, fleet types, and other relevant factors. The Association aspires to make such seminars a CPI characteristic service, and will continue to focus on tailor-made loss prevention services in order to help the members and shipping community to improve shipboard management and safety awareness.
