On Monday, 10 December in the afternoon, CPI hosted its FD&D Workshop in Beijing. Representatives from more than 10 member companies based in Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, and other regions in the vicinity attended the workshop which was presided over by CPI Claims Director Mr. Zhou Yousheng.

In-house Solicitor Mr. Peter Gulvanessian from CPI Services (UK) Ltd. introduced IMO’s 2020 Sulphur Cap and the implications of the new restrictions. Mr. Gulvanessian discussed the implications of these changes on commonly agreed charterparty terms, together with approaches that the members might take to protect themselves against anticipated risks of the upcoming cap.. FDD & TCL Claims Executive Mr. Philippe Liu reviewed various hot topics encountered in recent charterparty disputes, including developments in underperformance and overconsumption claims, hold inspections at loading ports,  the Paramount Clause, and the recent trend of the inclusion of continuing warranties as to seaworthiness in charterparties.

CPI received positive feedbacks from the attendees, who said that shipowners are extremely interested in topics such as the impact of regulatory changes on charterparty clauses as well as recent developments in charterparty disputes, and that this workshop was very informational. The FD&D Workshop will further deepen CPI’s connections with member companies, improve the service that provide for shipowners, and assist in the development of FD&D insurance.
