CPI and Shanghai P&I Services Ltd. Jointly Host the International P&I Exchange and the Signing Ceremony of the Strategic Memorandum of Cooperation

18 July afternoon in Shanghai, the International P&I Exchange and the Signing Ceremony of the Strategic Memorandum of Cooperation were jointly hosted by CPI and Shanghai P&I Services Ltd. at China P&I Center. This is part of the series of commemorative events of CPI’s 35th anniversary. IMO Maritime Ambassador and Former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport Mr. Xu Zuyuan, Director of Shanghai International Shipping Institute and Former President of Shanghai Maritime University Mr. Yu Shicheng, President of Shanghai Maritime Court Mr. Wang Tong, Executive Vice President of China Shipowners Association Mr. Zhang Shouguo, Deputy Director of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration Mr. Xie Qunwei, Deputy Director of Donghai Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport Mr. Zhang Rongjun, President of Shanghai Shipping Exchange Mr. Zhang Ye, Deputy Director of Changjiangkou Waterway Administration of the Ministry of Transport Mr. Xu Guibin, Director of Chinese Ship-source Oil Pollution Compensation Settlement Centre Mr. Zhou Fangzhen and Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Hongkou District Investment Promotion Office Ms. Shen Lan attended the event and witnessed the signing ceremony. Representatives from member clubs of the IG, domestic and international shipowner associations, insurance organizations, as well as shipowners, lawyers, and surveyors attended the event. The event was hosted by CPI Managing Director Mr. Song Chunfeng. 


Mr. Xu Zuyuan gave the opening remark, in which he highly praised the accomplishments CPI has made in the past 35 years. As CPI’s former director of the board, Mr. Xu hopes that CPI could foster team spirit and work together to make innovations and reach new heights. Mr. Xu pointed out that the establishment of Shanghai P&I Services Ltd. is another great step towards combining Shanghai’s high-end marine service resources, and believes signing the Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation would create lasting effects on both parties. The cooperation will create results built on the principles of mutual benefit and continuous development in order to provide better services to the shipping industry in China and in the world.

Representative for the signing ceremony and Chief Executive of Skuld Hong Kong Branch  Mr. Patrick Wang congratulated CPI on its 35th anniversary in his speech, and gave positive feedbacks for the history of cooperation between Skuld and CPI for the past 20 years. Mr. Wang said that the restructuring of CPI’s correspondents business and team fully responded to market needs, and hopes that Shanghai P&I Services could continue to uphold the CPI strategy of “professionalism, market-orientation and internationalisation” to bring high quality and professional services to its clients.

Shortly afterwards, General Manager of Shanghai P&I Services Ltd. Mr. Zhang Dali signed the Memorandum of Strategic Cooperation respectively with Assuranceforeningen Skuld (Gjensidig), North of England P&I Association, Steamship Mutual and China Taiping Insurance (HK) Co., Ltd. The strategic cooperation aims to combine advantageous resources, comprehensively improve service quality and increase industry influence. The memo highlighted points of strategic cooperation on improving correspondent services, information sharing, as well as expanding cooperation areas and approaches.

Following the signing ceremony, the two parties jointly hosted the 2019 International P&I Exchange. Guests exchanged views on trends in the international P&I insurance industry, the future prospects for CPI and Shanghai P&I Services, and pressing topics in marine insurance. The exchange is an important platform for increasing conversations within the P&I insurance industry, and many opinions expressed by the guests are both inspiring and innovative. The guests expressed their hope that the event could help create more awareness and push for healthy developments within the industry, and therefore provide better service to the shipping industry in China and in the world.
