CPI Hosts 2019 Annual Loss Prevention Seminar

11 September 2019, the 2019 Annual Loss Prevention Seminar was held in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The Seminar was sponsored by China Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association (CPI) and organized by Shanghai P&I Services Ltd. 46 member companies and 60 representatives from across the country attended the seminar.

The seminar touched on subjects including the IMO 2020 Sulphur Cap. CPI Loss Prevention Department Captain Wang Yong, Beijing Centre Deputy Managing Director Ms. Jin Cong and FDD & TCL Department Claims Executive Mr. Phillippe Liu respectively analysed the implications of the new policy on shipowners and the shipping industry from technical, underwriting and chartering perspectives. Claims Department Claims Manager Mr. Kevin Jia introduced recent P&I claims cases to the audience. Loss Prevention Department Captain Wei Yuliang discussed common navigational and operational errors based on his previous ship visits.

Ms. Chen Wei, Division Chief of Dangerous Cargos Management and Pollution Prevention, Pudong Maritime Safety Administration and Captain Tony Huang, General Manager of T&A Marine were invited as special guests to the seminar, and respectively gave talks and ensuing FAQ sessions on “Ship-Board Cargo Monitoring and Ship-Source Pollution Management”, as well as “SCOPIC Clause and Claims Handling”.

The seminar was well received by members because it touched on pressing topics that are important for loss prevention, and increased communication between CPI and its members. CPI will continue to host seminars in different formats in order to target different members as an important part of its loss prevention efforts, and utilize this opportunity to listen to members’ needs, which will help provide members with more personalized loss prevention services. In the future, CPI will continue to provide even higher quality of services for its members.
